If the hose to the pump is too short. You can extend it using a typical aquarium airline tubing as a connector.
Or cut a section from free-hotel ballpoint pen's case and use it as the connector
Steps
1. Cut the hose in the middle
2. Cut 1 inch (or more if needed) from the airline tubing
3. Insert the airline tubing between the hose (see picture)
